The Year 1995 The Project Steam Trek: The First Generation

Steamtrek: The First Generation was presented at Arisia 95 and won Best in Show.
The idea was that Picard and Crew were shot back in time and stranded on a Mysterous Island. Where they run in to Captian Nemo, Data trys to come up with a solution to return them to there time but requires costanst winding. Click on each to see them full size.

Gears, Dials, Brass Levers and Leather all add to the look and feel of functional props that seem to fit the 19th century.

An old Ohm meter has a new life.

Dr Crushers costume. Notive the classic trek insigna with a star burst behind it. the Starburst idea came from the logo of the Albatross from Master of the World.

 

the Mens uniforms were standard Civil war patterns with the capelet to give the idea of the Next Gen costume. We had orginally planned on long frock coats but they were too complex and would look to much like the dress uniform from the Next Generation. (TVversion)

The Map Box Tabulator Perfect for travels accross Nemo's Island

We reused this prop for HG wells Adventures in Time.
The orginal map from Steamtrek was lost to time...

This is a steam-ificated toy hand phasor from Playmates.

...with lights, sounds and glowing Byzathum Crystal.

Press the crystals change the gun from stun to kill.

Why Yes - the master time controler is made from a plastic Pickel Jar. And Yes, the time controler lever is a plastic Salt shaker with a Christmas orniment on it. Your point?

Here is a Steamship Mechanic who was allowed to stay up way past her bedtime. the vest from this costume is a repurposed Farscape vest that John Crichton wore.

Return of the Crew of the Steamship Enterprise. Yes we still fit into our costumes after 14 years! LOL

Steamtrek: the First Generation won best in show at Arisia 1995. Well before the tide of the steampunk movement that so wonderfully filled Arisia 09.

OK I for one am really looking forward to what JJ and crew have in store for us. Though I will say I hate the junk they put on the brigde especially the bar code scanners. Why?
